Catching Fire - Suzanne Collins This series was addictive. I downloaded books 2 and 3 of the series on my nook, not feeling willing to wait for them to return to the library or become available on paperback swap. They are the meeting point of my set of books centered on young adults (Harry Potter and Flavia DeLuce series read earlier this year) and the dystopian fiction I've also been reading (1984 and The Handmaid's Tale). In this dystopian vision of the future of the US, teens from the Districts are set up to battle each other to the death in an arena in the Capital. Katniss, a girl from District 12 volunteers to replace her sister, whose name has been drawn, and we are off and running. All three books in the series explore the nature of friendship, loyalty, authority, courage, and tyrany. I found myself a little haunted by the books after reading them, falling into dreams where I was in Katniss's world facing challenges, trying to save loved ones, and battling unjust powers. These may be written for a young adult readership, but there is plenty here keep adults entertained too.
